City Directories Indexing Project

As previously announced, The Ohio Genealogical Society has partnered with Ancestry.com World Archives Project to preserve historical records. Through this partnership, The Ohio Genealogical Society will index important community records which Ancestry.com will add to its site, making the records searchable and more easily accessible for others pursuing their family history research. At this time, OGS members will be able to work on indexing numerous city directories from around the state that have not been previously indexed.

All indexes created through the World Archives Project will remain accessible for free on Ancestry.com. Ancestry.com will also donate a digital copy of the index and images of the original records back to The Ohio Genealogical Society for all projects it sponsors.

“Our organization is excited to play an active role in this unique effort,” said E. Paul Morehouse, Jr., President. “Through the World Archives Project, we have a chance to preserve records important to our community’s history and help make them more easily accessible for others researching their roots.”

Anyone with a computer can join the project. Simply visit www.ancestry.com/worldarchivesproject to get started or contact our coordinator at citydirectories@ogs.org to learn how to help The Ohio Genealogical Society.
