2008 OGS Annual Conference Research Opportunities in the Cincinnati Area Extended Hours at the Cincinnati Public LibraryOn Thursday evening, enjoy a visit to the new Genealogy and Local History Department of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, in downtown Cincinnati. The Library will be open on Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm as usual, with extended hours only for conference attendees from 6:30 to 11:30 pm. Come early in the day and stay as long as you wish, or check into the hotel and take the conference shuttle bus to the Library. This special evening will include periodic orientation sessions and extra staff on duty to meet your needs. Snacks will also be available. See the Summer 2007 issue of Ohio Genealogy News for a comprehensive description of the Library’s genealogy collection, the fifth largest in the U.S. The Library has all Ohio death certificates and indexes for the period of 1908 to 1953, with multiple microfilm readers and printers. If you drive there directly, the closest and least expensive parking location is the City of Cincinnati Garage on 9th Street between Vine and Race. The Library’s address is 800 Vine Street, a half-block from the garage. A conference shuttle bus will leave from the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel at one-hour intervals:

Other Research Opportunities The Cincinnati Historical Society has been collecting materials relating to the Greater
Cincinnati area, the state of Ohio and the history of the Northwest Territory since 1831. Genealogical
resources include: Cincinnati and Hamilton County directories; 2,500 major manuscript collections with
the records of churches, businesses, family papers, tax records, ethnic and cultural organizations; 7,000
pictorial images; 2,500 maps; 140 newspaper titles; microfilmed records and indexes of the Hamilton

the leading resource in Northern Kentucky for local history and genealogy information. The Genealogy Department offers more
than 20,000 volumes, family files (indexed on the website), photographs, maps and 7,000 reels of microfilm
including World War I Draft Registration Cards for Kentucky, Kentucky death certificates 1911-1955, cemetery and
