OGS Honors Outstanding Chapters and Members at its 2006 Conference
Mansfield, Ohio--The Ohio Genealogical Society honored two chapters and two members for outstanding achievement in 2005 at its annual luncheon on April 29 during the 2006 Conference in Toledo.
Outstanding Chapter Award
This award is conferred for achievement during the 2005 program year in
three or more of the following areas: variety of membership activities throughout the year,
contribution of service to genealogical records preservation (e.g., cemetery preservation, publishing,
newsletters, providing/assisting local libraries/repositories), genealogical education of members
or of the general public through workshops, inter/intra chapter-OGS-local historical society
activities/relationships/communications. For 2006, this award was conferred on Lake County Chapter of OGS.
Outstanding OGS Chapter Officer Award
This award recognizes a person or persons who performed exemplary
service to a chapter in the previous year. The 2006 award recognizes the work of Margaret Chaney of
Lorain County Chapter and Debra Geesner of the Clermont County Chapter.
Outstanding OGS Chapter Volunteer
This award is presented to a Chapter member in good standing who
contributed service above and beyond the normal level of chapter activity. OGS recognized Barbara McCarthy of
the Clermont County Chapter.
Outstanding Chapter Webpage Award
A panel of judges reviewed OGS Chapter websites that were linked to
the OGS website at www.ogs.org and granted the Thomas A. Edison Award for the Best Chapter Web Site
to Licking County Genealogical Society, a Chapter of OGS, for its website, which can be accessed
at http://www.rootsweb.com/~
ohlcgs2/index.html. It is the second year in a row the Chapter has won this award.
Outstanding Chapter Newsletter Award
This year, the Frances Dana Gage Award for Best Chapter Newsletter was awarded to
the Delaware County Chapter, OGS for its newsletter Delaware Genealogist.
The Ohio Genealogical Society is the largest state genealogical society
in the nation, with over 6,000 members in 94 chapters around the state and elsewhere in the U.S. It publishes the OGS Quarterly, OGS Genealogy News, Ohio Records & Pioneer Families, and Ohio Civil War Genealogy Journal.
