New ORPF Editor Sought

Immediate Opening

Mansfield, Ohio (3 November 2006)--The Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS) seeks a highly motivated person with editing and layout skills for its quarterly publication, Ohio Records & Pioneer Families (ORPF). OGS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit State of Ohio charitable organization. ORPF currently has 1000 subscribers nationwide. Its mission is to locate and tell the stories of the men and women who were the first settlers of the state of Ohio. The journal also carries abstracts, transcriptions and articles on Ohio’s historical and genealogical record groups.

ORPF materials include Bible records, cemetery inscriptions, tax lists, articles about pioneer families, marriages, deaths, mortality schedules, territorial records, and other documents creating during Ohio's formation through the mid-19th century.

The prospective editor:

  • Must be able to meet printing deadlines four times a year.
  • Must have the technology to input, edit and layout text and graphics into a 56-page quarterly publication, as well as manage file sending and receiving through e-mail.
  • Must have working knowledge of copyright laws.
  • Should have an interest in genealogy and Ohio history and be interested in helping find material for publication.
  • May share these duties with another qualified person.
  • Must produce a surname index for the last issue of each year.
