Ohio Genealogical Society Report (Defunct)
The Ohio Genealogical Society Quarterly has been published since 1961 but under different titles and even different formats. The first editor, Mrs. Donald Geib, developed the first issue in October 1961 when the Society was just two years old. The Report, as it was then called, was a standard 8 1/2 x 11 staple-bound booklet with functions of the group and a little history of Ohio and its families. After two years, OGS President David Massa encouraged the group to expand the publication to a tabloid newspaper format, with both current Society activities, more historical and genealogical articles, and bold eye-catching headlines. Each issue was developed on a county theme and nearly all the articles were about that section of Ohio. In 1970, when the OGS Newsletter (now Ohio Genealogy News) started, The Report became a much thicker journal filled with genealogical articles and book reviews with Society news and queries left to the newsletter.
Lida Harshman and Cora Harshman Barthalow were editors, followed by Carol Willsey Bell, Phyllis Miller Delaney, and many others through the years. In 2003, the name change was made to the Ohio Genealogical Society Quarterly but the volume/issue numbers continued. With a history of more than 50 years, the Report/OGS Quarterly is the premier magazine for genealogists in Ohio.
